Pomorze, Pommem or Pomeranian originated form the sled dogs in Greenland and Lapland which was later on introduced in Pomerania at Central Europe which now form part the northern Poland and eastern Germany. Pomerania is a region wherein it is surrounded by the Baltic Sea. The said region stretches from the est of the Rugen Island to Vistula River.

This breed of dog came from the Spitz family. It hs been considered as a "toy dog" for it has a small size. Pomeranian was introduced first to the English nobility by the Queen Charlotte of England. Yet again, became internationally popular after the grand daughter of Queen Charlotte, Queen Victoria went back to England from Florence, Italy with a Pomeranian dog called Marco.

Appearance and Size

A Pomeranian is small and it has similar coat as the Pekingese. It has many colors due to the selective breeding of it in England. Its coat is thick similar to the dogs in the cold climates.

Home and Relations, Personality and Special Characteristics

just like any other dogs or rather toy dogs to that effect the Pomeranians are very loyal to its master. It does not mingle to other people but its master and it loves following its master from one room to the other. This dog is also ideal for the children of the house to play with for its small size and cunning personality.

Special Care

A Pomeranian requires its coat be brushed everyday or twice within a week. Its coat needs trimming from time to time. Regular bathing as well as nail and ear cleaning is advisable for dogs such as these.

The life span of this kind of breed last from twelve to twenty years. The common sickness that a Pomeranian may have are Cataracts, Dry Eye, Luxating Patella, Legg-Calve-Perthes Syndrove, Hip Dysplasia, Patent Ductus Arteriousus, Collapsing Trachea, Skin Diseases, Hypothyroidism, Epilepsy, Hypoglycemia and Hydrocephalus.
